Long ago we’ve witnessed your birth
And guided you on your first steps
For a long time we’ve shared this earth
From tall mountains to the vast steppes.
You were small and, oh, so frail,
Afraid of the vast world ahead
At first it seemed that you will fail,
Naked in the cold and unfed.
But we saw something inside you,
Courage and a will to move on;
We looked closely and we knew:
With us you can see a new dawn.
We took you under our close care,
Gave you shelter and kept you warm,
We could see how you were scared,
Afraid to go and face the storm.
With awe and wonder you looked at us
As we were part of your daily lives
In you we’ve placed our hope and trust
And shared the beauty which life gives.
We taught you the ways of nature,
To hear its sounds and feel its scent,
We were one with every creature
As the seasons came and went.
You wove us into your legends
“Dragons” is how you’ve called us
You wrote them by the thousands
On walls, on paper, in your hear
